Library and Library Information Science S1 Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Bengkulu University (UNIB) was established based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 484/E/O/2013 dated 21 October 2013. Currently, the study program is directly under the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Bengkulu. This is because this science field is not related to the fields of science in the departments at FISIP UNIB. Communication Science is the field of study at FISIP UNIB, which is quite close to the library and Information Science. However, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Faculty of Communication Sciences department has overseen too many study programs, namely S1 Communication Studies, S2 Communication Studies, S1 Journalism, D3 Journalism, and D3.
Secretary. According to the study program’s internal considerations, the S1 Library and Information Science study program institutionally will have better development if it is directly under the faculty.
The S1 Library and Information Science Study Program have seven staff, namely six lecturers and one education staff. Study program managers consist of 1 study program head and one education staff. The home base lecturer chooses the head of the study program at an election meeting at the study program level. Study program laboratory managers are appointed by the study program based on input from all home base lecturers. At the same time, the faculty established the study program staff. Decision-making in study program management is carried out democratically through internal study program meetings, which are held periodically by involving leadership elements and all lecturers, even if necessary, also involving administrative staff and students.
