Public Lecture “Building Competencies of Library and Information Science Study Program Graduates in the Digital Age”

Monday (7/11), the Library and Information Science Study Program at the University of Bengkulu successfully held a Public Lecture with the theme “Building Competence of Library and Information Science Study Program Graduates in the Digital Age.” This activity was held offline and invited speakers, namely Danang Dwijo Kangko, M.P Lecturer in the Library Science and Information Science Study Program at Yarsi University Jakarta and moderated by Rahmat Alifin Valentino, S.IIP., M.I.Kom Lecturer in the Library and Information Science Study Program at Bengkulu University. This public lecture was also attended by all Library and Information Science students at the University of Bengkulu from the class of 2020 to the type of 2022 who were very enthusiastic about participating in this activity in a conducive manner.
After the opening, the presenters began to explain their material: “Competence is a slice of attitude, knowledge, and ability. This Competence is the responsibility of the government, industry, business world, etc.
The government must issue regulations regarding Competence; these regulations have a role in IDUKA (Industry, business, and the world of work); professional associations will help you to improve your professionalism. Usually, they provide advocacy so that you will be protected. They also offer career development by conducting career development (training).
In educational Institutions, the curriculum is formed to ensure students have a particular competency. Competency certification institutions where you will be trained, given training, and tested. If you pass, you will be given a competency certificate. The certificate has a validity period for individuals, library competence, and information science, such as libraries trying to transform into information science, not conventional libraries.”
Mr. Danang Dwijo Kangko delivered a snippet of material, M.P., after the delivery of this material ended the Public Lecture with the theme “Building Competencies of Library and Information Science Study Program Graduates in the Digital Age.”
