Tuesday (8/11) the University of Bengkulu Library and Information Science Study Program held a National Seminar and Hybrid Call for Paper with the theme “Library Readiness in Entering the Era of Society 5.0”. This activity was held offline and invited two resource persons, namely Dr. Labibah, MLIS ., Lecturer of the Library Science Study Program at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University and Fransiska Timoria Samosir, M.A., Lecturer of the Library and Information Science Study Program at Bengkulu University and moderated by one moderator namely Mr. Aang Gunaidi, SIP., M.P as Lecturer of the Library and Science Study Program Bengkulu University Information. This seminar was also attended by Bengkulu University Library and Information Science lecturers, Head of Bengkulu University Library and Information Science Study Program, Dean of FISIP Bengkulu University, Head of Bengkulu Province Libraries, other invited guests and Information Science students at Bengkulu University.
The first resource person, Mrs. Fransiska Timoria Samosir, M.A, discussed the delivery of the theme material. Regarding the meaning of the seminar theme itself, namely society, 5.0 is the development of (Japan), innovation from 5.0 makes humans better and more innovative, one example is Apple worth detecting human health, robotics makes it easier to do homework. What is the library like in today’s era?
Already doing a mobile library, self service, digital consulting services, etc., it turns out that the development of the library is uneven, one of the fastest growing libraries is the university library because of millennial analysis carried out by librarians, future reading behavior will change according to technological advances, as in Taiwan, learning to read is assisted by robotics, one development of libraries is the National Library. In conclusion, with technology, librarians will actually be helped, not replaced, but librarians can be more innovative. The condition is that they must understand information, must be more creative, and can understand the information needs that we need. Librarians will not be replaced by technology because humans have empathy, unlike robots.
The second resource person is Mrs. Dr. Labibah, MLIS., Lecturer of the Library Science Study Program at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University who discussed Society 5.0, emphasized more on humans, humans who determine even in the era of globalization, which is improving the quality of life. Does our library have a role in improving the quality of human life? Otherwise, we will be disrupted. Now the world is only limited to the index finger. Information literacy is important, so that not all become information experts, so that it becomes a tsunami of information. Now it is easy to find information, but the information we need is easy for us to get. The library will not be lost if it can meet the information needs of the community and feel the benefits. Building issues with other communities is very important because it is not only the librarian who will defend the library. Library is not a noun but a verb, not just a display but conveying information, so that the library can run sustainably. Cut the library’s complaints and find a solution, and create an interesting system, because the problem will not go away if we complain. The discussion took place interactively, even during the explanation of the material, the participants actively argued and asked questions.
“I attended a seminar. Here I got a good message because it can improve my library at SMA Negeri 1. So at least I got an idea to add and improve all the facilities in the library and order to increase activities like this again because this is very useful for librarians and librarian heads,” explained Heni Puspita, a Head of Library of SMA Negeri 1 Bengkulu City, one participant of the seminar. In addition, invited guests from the Bengkulu Province FPPTI also conveyed the message “Thank you for being invited to take part this event is very good which can provide knowledge to younger students, especially Library and Information Science students in adding insight that the current library has switch to all digital, so students must be information and digital literate and all of that must be mastered by students,” he explained. Not only that, the invited guests who came from the chairman of the IPI (Indonesian Librarian Association) also conveyed their message “We from the Bengkulu provincial librarian association appreciate the holding of activities this morning and we are also thrilled to meet all of you. With Library and Information Science study program and their students because these students are prospective librarians who will revive and preserve libraries. And I said earlier that there is this triangular pyramid, the first is a professional organization, the second is a user institution, namely the library, and the third is an institution education that produces librarian candidates. So these three institutions must be able to synergize, collaborate so that libraries, user institutions and professional organizations can provide input to each other. So we hope that alumni of the Library and Information Science S1 alumni of Bengkulu University can immediately use their products. Who is the wearer? Namely, the Library institution. We provide input on what competitions should be prepared by educational institutions so that the librarians produced after graduation can be absorbed by the library,” he concluded.
