BENGKULU UNIVERSITY SYNERGITY WITH CHILD WELFARE INSTITUTIONS GUYUB RUKUN (LKSA)CITY OF BENGKULU IN CHILD PROTECTION
KS FISIP UNIB || Welcoming World Children’s Day which is usually celebrated every November 20, this year the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Bengkulu University, signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Guyub Rukun Child Social Welfare Institution (LKSA) Bengkulu City on Friday 13 November 2020 at the Orphanage Guyub Rukun Kelurahan Semarang, Bengkulu City. The collaboration that was built in the context of implementing community service for Social Protection for Children during the Covid-19 Pandemic Period aims to become a framework of reference for implementing educational activities (field work practice), research, community service as well as fostering LKSA management and increasing the capacity of LKSA human resources .

This year UNICEF, the United Nations organization working in the field of children’s rights, has adopted the theme of World Children’s Day as: “A day to re-imagine a better future for every child”. This theme becomes important when currently the world, including Indonesia, is facing the Covid-19 Pandemic which has at least changed the order of life such as studying from home, working from home and changes in other human activities as an effort to prevent and deal with Covid-19 through: the habit of washing hands using soap and hand sanitizers, the habit of wearing masks, and maintaining a safe distance when interacting with other people.
Another message that is more general in commemorating world children’s day appears as a manifestation of the Declaration on the Rights of the Child (1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) which contains the child’s right to life, health, education and play. Children also have the right to live in a family, to be protected from violence, not being discriminated against, and so that their views are heard.
In this context, the Community Service activities initiated by Yessilia Osira S.Sos., MP, Dr. Sri Putri Permata, S.Sos., M.Kes, and Dr. Dhanurseto Hadiprashada, S.IP., M.Sc, has carried out various activities: 1) Providing assistance with hand washing facilities and hand sanitizers, 2) Providing masks, 3) social counseling on healthy lifestyles through distributing t-shirts bearing health messages, and 4) providing stimulus assistance for the development of organic agriculture as a medium for children’s activities at LKSA Guyub Rukun, as well as a medium for building food security for orphanages through vegetable cultivation.
