Presenting Speakers from 4 Countries, 1st International Conference on Development Communication Runs Successfully
The Department of Communication Science together with S1 Journalism Study Program and S2 Communication Science Study Program held an international seminar “1st International Conference on Development Communication (ICDC)“. This activity carries the theme “Prospect of Communication for Development in the Digital Era“.
This International Seminar presents four speakers from four different countries. The four speakers are Prof. Atish Prashar (Dean and Head School of Media, Arts, Aesthetic Central University of South Bihar, Gaya, India), Dr. Azahar Kasim (School of Multimedia, Technology and Communication Universiti Utara Malaysia), Sakiroh Yeana Benharoon, Ph.D (Communication Arts Prince Songkla University Thailand) and Wahyu Widiastuti, M.Sc (Department of Communication, University of Bengkulu).
This international seminar activity was attended by 45 academics from various universities, namely Bengkulu University, Muhammadiyah Bengkulu University, Riau University, Riau Islamic University, Raden Fatah University Palembang, Gabur University, Palembang State Islamic University, Andalas University, Makassar University, UIN Sunan Gunung Jati, Nurdin Hamzah Jambi University, Sebelas Maret University, STIA MI Jakarta, Singaperbangsa Karawang University and others.
The International Seminar activity was opened directly by the Chancellor of Bengkulu University, Dr. Retno Agustina Ekaputri and also attended the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Bengkulu University, Dr. Yunilisiah, M.Si who also gave a speech. The Governor of Bengkulu who was originally scheduled to be a Keynote Speaker was represented by the Bengkulu Provincial Communication and Information Office, H.M. Redwan Arif, MPH
The opening ceremony was marked by the beating of Dol together by the Chancellor of Bengkulu University, Dean of FISIP Bengkulu University, Head of the Bengkulu Provincial Communication and Information Office, Chairman of the Department of Communication Science (Rasianna Br. Saragih, M.Si), Head of S2 Communication Science Study Program (Dr. Dhanurseto Hadiprashada, M.Si), Chairman of S1 Journalism Study Program (Yuliati, M.I.Kom), Chairman of ICDC Committee 2022 (Dr. Alfarabi, M.A.) and the Four Speakers.
Speakers at this International Seminar brought various topics related to development communication in the digital age. International seminar materials include ‘Deconstructing Development Myths in The Digital Era Through Communication’, ‘Communication in Community-Based Tourism in Thailand’s Southernmost Provinces’, ‘Narrative Journalism and Digital Information in Digital Era’ and ‘Mapping the Efficacy of Social Media in Political Communication’. The moderator, Adi Idham, guided international seminar participants who actively asked questions in question and answer sessions to speakers.
After the seminar activity continued at the Plenary Session activity. Participants are divided into four rooms with different themes according to the topic of each participant’s presentation. Paper presentation is also done hybridly.
The Chairman of the ICDC Committee 2022 in his speech thanked those who have supported this activity, namely Aspikom Bengkulu, ISKI Bengkulu, Toyota, Bank Tabungan Negara, Bank Mega Syariah, Bank Mualamat, Telkom, RR Stuff, along with media partners RBTV, BETV, Iko Bengkulu, and Natural Bengkulu. This international seminar is expected to provide contiribution in regional development, especially in Bengkulu province.
