
Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Bengkulu, Holds International Conference on Social Policy and Social Development
The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Bengkulu, is again holding an international scale activity. This activity is titled Bengkulu International Conference (BIC) which is scheduled to take place on 16-17 November 2017 by presenting experts in the field of social sciences from five countries.
The five experts in the field of social science who became the keynote speakers were Prof. M. Rezaul Islam, Ph.D who is a Professor at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research University of Dhaka – Bangladesh and Prof. Dr. Juliet K. Bucoy, Ph.D. RSW which is the Dean of the Graduate School, Trinity University of Asia, Quezon City – Philippines.
Then, Prof. Dr. H. Mohd. Dahlan HA. Malek, Ph.D who is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Psychology & Education University Malaysia Sabah – Malaysia, Assoc. Prof. Wawandee Poonpoksin, MSW who is a lecturer and researcher at Thammasat University, Bangkok – Thailand, and Prof. Adi Fahrudin, Ph.D from Muhammadiyah University, Jakarta – Indonesia.
In addition, Plt. Governor of Bengkulu Dr. H. Rohidin Mersyah, MM was also asked to deliver a presentation on government policy in development and improving social welfare which at the Governor’s presentation session was guided by Dr. Panji Suminar, MA as the moderator.
This activity was attended by the Chancellor of UNIB Dr. Ridwan Nurazi, Dean of FISIP UNIB Dr. Achmad Aminuddin, Deputy Chancellors, Deputy Deans, Lecturers, as well as hundreds of FISIP students and from other faculties within UNIB and from other universities who were also invited. For participants from other universities, there were around 16 universities from various provinces throughout Indonesia who sent their delegates.
The main theme of this international conference is “Social Policy and Social Development on Local, Regional, and International Perspectives”. Departing from that theme, this activity presented the findings of researchers, academics, students and practitioners on social policy and social development. The results of this conference will be pro-people social policies that can be applied in social development nationally and internationally.
“This conference discussed many things related to politics, government, social policy, social work and social welfare. It then discusses poverty, social inequality, community, family and children, social entrepreneurship, public health and other matters. It is hoped that this discussion will produce a policy that can be implemented in social development,” said the Head of the BIC-SPSD Organizing Committee, Dr. Muria Herlina, M. Kes.
Dr. Muria explained, FISIP UNIB was very proud of holding this BIC-SPSD and thanked all parties, especially the speakers from neighboring universities who had participated in contributing ideas and providing knowledge enrichment to the conference participants.
Monitoring by the UNIB Public Relations Team, on the sidelines of the conference, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bengkulu University which was signed directly by the Chancellor of UNIB Dr. Ridwan Nurazi, M.Sc with the University of Dhaka – Bangladesh, and the MoU between FISIP UNIB and the Institute of Social Welfare & Research University of Dhaka.
