The MC Study Programme was established based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 139/E/O/2014 dated June 3rd, 2014. The study programme was organised based on the Rector’s Decree Number 139/H30/HK/2009 concerning the Implementation of the Postgraduate Education Programme of UNIB. In addition, the study programme also utilises several lecturers from other study programmes within UNIB according to their capacity to accelerate work mechanisms efficiently and effectively. The MC has been an active member of ASPIKOM (The Association for Higher Education in Communication Studies) since 2019. The study programme also collaborates with the Association for Higher Education in Communication Studies (henceforth ASPIKOM –Asosiasi Pendidikan Tinggi Ilmu Komunikasi) in the form of national seminars, conferences and public lectures. The vision of the MC Study Programme is to provide education, research, and community service that produces excellent communication theorists and practitioners in Indonesia. To manifest the vision above, the missions of the MC Study Programme are:
- To carry out education and teaching-oriented on the theory and practice of communication.
- To carry out research in communication science.
- To carry out community service as the implementation of research results in communication science.
- To implement cooperation and partnership with stakeholders .
- To establish and develop communication study centres.
- To improve the performance quality and the welfare of the teaching staff and education personnel
The seventh, the missions of the MC Study Programme are to carry out education and teaching activities oriented on the theory and practice of communication development; to carry out research in the fields of communication science such as mass media, tourism, cross cultur and local wisdom; to implement community service as the implementation of the research results in the fields of communication science such as mass media, tourism; to organise the cooperation, society and partnerships with the stakeholders; to establish and develop the communication study centres such as cross cultur communication and local wisdom, and; to improve the quality, performance, and welfare of the teaching and education personnel.
The preparation of the curriculum must refer to the qualification framework set by the Government of Indonesia. Therefore, the graduates learning outcomes (henceforth CPL –Capaian Pembelajaran Lulusan) must be in accordance with the intended qualification level. Based on the KKNI, Each of these levels has a different CPL. Therefore, the CPL of each study programme refers to the IQF level according to the level of education. The comparison between the CPL of each study programme and the KKNI is shown in the following table. Afterwards, the CPL of the study programme is compared to the CPL of the European Quality Framework (EQF). the CPL of the bachelor programme is at level 6, the magister programme is at level 8, and the doctoral programme is at level 9.
